EXECUTIVE STAFF

 


Rod Crane
President and CEO

Rod Crane graduated from the University of Sioux Falls with a BA degree in Education in 1968, the University of Minnesota Graduate School of Health Care Administration in 1983, the University of Minnesota School of Management of International Business in 1992 and the University of Minnesota/Mayo Clinic School of Management Advanced Studies in Leadership and Health Care Management in 2000. He was formerly the Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD, President/CEO of Critical Care Services, Inc., St. Paul, MN and provided national and international health care industry consulting services prior to joining MedFlight at its inception in 1995.

Rod serves as a board member for the American Red Cross and is a member of the Ohio Ambulance Association and the Association of Air Medical Service. He is a past board member of Mercy Medical Airlift in Manassas, VA and the EMS Institute in St. Paul, MN.

As a leader in the national and international air ambulance industry, Mr. Crane has consulted for the American Medical Clinic in Moscow and for the World Health Alliance under the sponsorship of Omniflight Helicopters for the provision of medical care in remote areas of the world.


Howard Werman, M.D.

Howard A. Werman, MD graduated Duke University with a BA degree in Mathematics in 1977 and received his MD degree at SUNY at Buffalo in 1981. He completed his residency training at Ohio State University Medical Center in 1984 and a research fellowship in 1985. He has been a member of the faculty in the Ohio State University College of Medicine since 1984 and currently is a Professor of Emergency Medicine. He practices Emergency Medicine as an attending physician at OSU Medical Center and OSU Hospital East.

Dr. Werman has been an EMS Medical Director since 1984 and was medical director of SKYMED from 1988 until the program became MedFlight in 1995. He has served as co-medical director with Dr. Robert Falcone from 1995 until November 1998 when he became the program medical director. Dr. Werman has published books, book chapters and articles on emergency medical services and air medical transport. He has also  served as President of the Board of Directors for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. He serves as a member of the Ohio EMS Board Trauma Committee.


Thomas E. Allenstein, RN, CMTE

Tom Allenstein began his career in air medical transport in 1985 when he was involved in the start-up of a flight program in Idaho Falls, ID. After a couple of years, he transferred his family back to Minnesota and continued in nursing in the cardiac surgical ICU before joining the Mayo One flight program as a staff flight nurse in 1989. He took on the role of Chief Flight Nurse of the Rochester operations of MMT in 1996. Tom was involved in many of the plans leading to the development of the program from one helicopter to the transport system that Mayo Medical Transport is today including 3 helicopters, 1 jet aircraft, and a ground ALS/BLS system in 12 sites throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. Tom joined MedFlight in November on 2004 as the Chief Clinical Officer.

Along with his duties with his program, Tom has served as Chair of the Minnesota Air Medical Council, which represents 12 programs that transport patients in or out of the state. Tom has served as the Region II Director on the Board of Directors for AAMS as well as serving as the Secretary and the Vice President on the Executive Committee of AAMS. As part of his duties with AAMS, Tom served as chair of the Research Committee. In addition, he was also involved in the merger of the Foundation for Air Medical Research (FAR) and AAMS Foundation into the Foundation for Air Medical Research and Education (FARE) and is a current board member and Secretary / Treasurer of FARE. Tom is also a site Surveyor for the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.


Charles E. Ansley, MHA, CHE

Chuck Ansley joined MedFlight in 1999 and has over 20 years of progressive and diversified experience. Prior to joining MedFlight Chuck was a Senior Manager & Healthcare Consultant for Ernst & Young and Administrative Director Reengineering for Grant/Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Chuck earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology from The Ohio State University in 1975, a Master of Arts degree in Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University in 1978 and a Master of Health Administration from the Ohio State University in 1981. He is a Certified Healthcare Executive (CHE) through the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Registered Medical Technologist (MT) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

He has served as Associate Editor, American Journal of Medical Technology; Representative, Healthcare Advisory Committee, Peer Review System, Inc.; Clinical Instructor, School of Allied Medical Professions, The Ohio State University and has presented management lectures and supervised hematology clinical experience. In addition to his professional and educational accomplishments, Chuck has served as Chairman or President on the City of Westerville Personnel Review Board, The Ohio State University HSMP Alumni Association, and the Central Ohio Healthcare Administrators Association. He is currently a member of the American Hospital Association and has served as a board member of both Prevent Blindness America and Prevent Blindness Ohio.
