MedFlight is a not-for-profit, air and ground critical care transportation company based in Columbus, Ohio that completes nearly 7,000 critical care transports by helicopter and mobile intensive care unit each year.

MedFlight is made possible by our consortium hospitals including Grant/Riverside Methodist Hospitals (OhioHealth), The Ohio State University Medical Center and Akron General Medical Center. MedFlight also has partnerships with Akron Children’s Hospital and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Although MedFlight is owned by a consortium of hospitals, we transport patients to the most appropriate facility. We transport scene patients to the closest appropriate trauma center. For other patients, the referring and receiving physician decide upon the most appropriate destination and mode of transport.

By calling MedFlight’s Communications Center at 1-800-222-LIFE (5433), you are immediately in touch with one of the countries most skilled and convenient critical care transportation entities including 24-hour, 7 day a week medical helicopter and ground based mobile ICU.

Our Fleet…

MedFlight’s air and ground based medical fleet consists of 8 ancillary based helicopters and 5 ancillary based mobile ICU’s consisting of 24-hour, 7-day-a-week service.

Rotor wing services are contracted to MedFlight through Omniflight Helicopters, Inc.

Our people…

MedFlight crew members render the best medical care possible.  Our nurse-paramedic teams work under protocols developed by recognized leaders in trauma, cardiovascular medicine and pediatrics and are directly supervised by our Medical Control Physicians.

Each nurse has extensive critical care experience in hospital intensive care units, cardiac care units or emergency departments. Our paramedics have extensive experience with local fire/EMS agencies. Many paramedics also work as adjunct staff for hospitals.

All MedFlight clinical crew members constantly train and test through annual core competencies and real life care, while continuing to achieve the most advanced skills possible in critical care medicine. Their training never stops.

Partners for Life…

When life is on the line, it becomes all the more precious. Every day, emergency response and medical workers battle conditions that may damage or destroy life.

Every day, we confront seemingly insurmountable situations, and every day, we somehow overcome them. We fight time, weather, the limits of medical technology and human endurance to bring people back from the edge to help make them whole again. None of us could hope to overcome these elements alone, yet together we manage to overcome them daily.

MedFlight is proud to work with doctors, firefighters, law enforcement officers, nurses, communications and emergency medical personnel, and others to create extraordinary outcomes for people whose lives are on the line.
